I believe that you need to know your limitations I have put a Hogue Jr sleeve rubber grip over the grips, gives the 'tacky' feel and a bit more grith to grip with. I like the rubber grips on my guns, I just think it's a good tactical move toward a positive grip, in my mind. The styling is from the John Browning hi-power days with the Smith doulbe action 'guts'. I'd say for the way they fire, accuracy and fact they shoot when you pull the trigger, they are underpriced in the market, in my opinion, about maybe 30%. So, good buy all around. Click to expand.The P9R design is drawn from elements of both the Browning HP and the S&W Model 59. The quality varies from manufacturing period to period. FEG is no longer in business. However, the P9R is still available on various gun auction sites. You can find used ones in varying condition and price as well as brand new ones. It can be difficult to find factory magazines. But they do surface from time to time on the gun auction sites. Based on what I have read on other blogs I would say the majority of P9R owners have been very happy with the performance of their guns while some do not think too highly of them. A P9R is not a 'poor man's Browning'. (If you want a Browning, buy a Browning.) It should be judged on its own merits. Rise of nations cheats. As such, a good P9R is a very good reliable gun. Some are finished very well internally and externally. It was never meant to be a $1,000 gun. The ones I have owned have been very well finished, with fine walnut grips, (relatively) smoothly machined internally, with smooth trigger action, all around good shooters. ![]() ![]() But you have to be selective. There are currently 15-20 P9Rs, new and used, up for auction at GunBroker.com in the $200-$400 range. So, they are available. You are most likely better off purchasing new. However, you are less likely to find a NIB/NOS P9R at your local gun store. If you buy used and run into problems don't conclude all P9Rs are junk based upon your experience. Buy new, take responsible care of it and your P9R should prove a satisfying shooter for many years. Browning Mags do not work in the FEG P9R The Browning mags do not work in the P9R. However, it appears that mags for the S&W Model 59 do work. But they will not lock in without modification. The locking notch is on the opposite side from the P9R mags. So you have to cut a new notch on the same side as the P9R mags. I have not personally tried this. But I have read postings on other forums that the S&W Model 59 mags work in the P9R with the new locking hole cut. Try one first for fit before buying and modifying. If it slides into your specific gun and fits the same as the factory FEG magazine it's probably a safe bet to buy and modify. There are plenty of 10-round magazines listed on GunBroker.com as factory mags that seem to run about $25-$30.
